Welcome to Visual Art at Cabin John Middle School.
At Cabin John Middle School art students are challenged to think critically and creatively while developing academic success skills such as collaboration, risk-taking and persistence. Art students will learn about a wide variety of art forms, media, and techniques. They will analyze art from different time periods and from diverse cultures to better understand and appreciate human perspectives shaped by different cultural contexts. A particular focus will be placed on culturally relevant, contemporary art that reflect students’ lived experience.
Lessons align with County Curricular Objectives as well as State and National Art Standards. Students are assessed using rubrics that make transparent the particular objectives of each project. Some aspects of student performance measured are: students’ ability to apply art techniques, show fluency, flexibility, and originality in their creations, as well as their ability to reflect on the artistic process.
